What is SIBO?
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is when the bacteria in our gut get out of balance and overgrow. These bacteria typically live in the gastrointestinal tract or Large Intestine, but with SIBO they have overgrown in the Small Intestine, a location not meant for so many bacteria. This bacteria can interfere with our normal digestion and food absorption.
Signs Of SIBO
- Gas
- Bloating
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain or cramping
- Constipation
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Food intolerances: gluten, casein, lactose, fructose and more
- Chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes, neuromuscular disorders and autoimmune disease
- Vitamins and minerals deficiency
Other symptoms may include headache, joint pain, respiratory, skin, brain and mood symptoms.
It has also been proven that there is link between IBS and SIBO. Close to 80 percent of those suffering from IBS may actually have small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
Treatment
